Top 5 Current Affairs

US President Donald Trump recently announced about his plans to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty signed with Russia after around 18 years. The treaty was signed in 2002 to enhance military transparency. President Trump claimed that Russia has not stuck to its role as per the deal. The treaty has 35 signatories.
KKR invests Rs 11367 crore in Reliance Jio Platforms to buy a stake of 2.32 percent in a fully diluted basis. The deal is subject to regulatory and customary approvals. This is fifth global investment deal in last one month. Earlier, Facebook, Silver Lake, Vista Equity and General Atlantic invested in the Jio Platforms. Know all about KKR-Jio deal here.
PM Narendra Modi & Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee jointly conducted the survey of areas affected by Cyclone Amphan on May 22, 2020. After conducting the aerial survey of the areas, PM Modi allocated Rs 1000 crore as immediate assistance to West Bengal to recover from its loses. The devastating Cyclone Amphan made landfall in West Bengal on May 20, 2020 and damaged several parts of the states including capital Kolkata.
The Reserve Bank of India on May 22, 2020 addressed the media and announced reduction in the Policy Repo Rate from 4.4%to 4%. The reverse repo rate was also reduced to 3.35 percent. The decision was taken by RBI's Monetary Policy Committee to maintain the accommodative stance. The GDP is expected to remain negative for 2020-21.
The Textiles Ministry recently announced that India has become the second largest manufacturer of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) body suits in just two months. The number one spot is ruled by China. The PPE body coveralls or suits are essential for protection against the COVID-19 especially for healthcare personnel.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman reveals details of Aatmanirbhar Bharat economic package
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed the details of Atmanirbhar Bharat economic package in four different tranches. The package is focused on reviving the Indian economy through measures in different fields such as infrastructure, agriculture & farmers, migrant workers, governance and administrative reforms, Shishu Loans Holders, housing sector, real estate, MSMEs, taxation reforms and others.
Smokeless tobacco products banned in 28 States/UTs
The Union Health Ministry has banned smokeless tobacco products and spitting in public across 28 States and Union Territories. The decision was taken amid the Coronavirus outbreak to contain its spread in India. The states/UTs wherein the ban has been implemented include Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Assam.
NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant made an announcement that the Arogya Setu  App has been built on privacy-first principle. The contact tracing app protects the privacy and security of individuals as it has a defined protocol to access the data. The data of the app is shared only with a few government officials.
All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced that FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup will be held in February 2021. The tournament will begin on February 17, 2021 and will conclude on March 7, 2021. Earlier, the world cup was expected to be held on November 2, 2020.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently announced the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the ease of tourists visiting the state. Goa was the first Indian state to be declared as Coronavirus-Free as it reported no cases of the COVID-19 virus for over a month.
Union mFinance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has redefined MSME under its Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan economic package on the basis of investment limit and turnover. The new definition is expected to provide stimulus to growth of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.
PM Narendra Modi on May 12, 2020 announced the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan economic package worth Rs 20 lakh crore for the revival of Indian Economy. The package is aimed at making India self-reliant amid this COVID-19 outbreak. The Atmanirbhar package is focussed on land, labour, liquidity, and laws.
World Health Organisation (WHO) has stated that the COVID-19 pandemic will never go away from the world. People will be required to learn to live with the disease. It cannot be predicted when humans will be able achieve victory over the virus.
Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan of India is one among the largest Coronavirus Stimulus packages announced by several countries to revive their economies. National Technology Day : 11th May

National Technology Day celebrated on May 11 by the Department of Science and Technology. It brings together scientists, diplomats, technocrats, WHO officials from the research institutions, industries, and academic institutions.
Technology Development Board will organize a digital conference on 'Rebooting the Economy through Science, Technology, and Research Translations' (RESTART) to celebrate this day.
The Union Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan will be the Chief Guest of the conference and will deliver his address on National Technology Day. 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official twitter handle to celebrate this day. He saluted those who have been bringing positive difference in society with the help of technology.
National Technology Day 2020: History
On this day in 1998, India had successfully tested Shakti-1 nuclear missile at the Indian Army’s Pokhran test range in Rajasthan. The operation was called Shakti-1 or Pokhran II and was led by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
After two days, India had also successfully test-fired two nuclear weapons as part of Operation Shakti. After this, the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had announced India as a nuclear state. It made India the sixth country to join the nuclear club and made it the first country to not join the Non- Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (NPT).
National Technology Day 2020: Significance:
National Technology Day is celebrated every year on May 11 to acknowledge the achievements and excellence of the technology in India.
This day highlights the importance of science and its role in our day to day life. It also encourages youngsters to opt for science as their career option which can further help in strengthening the technological developments in our country.
• Technology Development Board will be celebrating the National Technology Day on May 11, 2020.
• Science and Technology ministry stated that amid the COVID-19 crisis, it is required to formulate a comprehensive action plan to rebuild the disrupted economy.
• As per the ministry, it will be required to focus on the technology solutions that will include advanced technologies, medical technologies, and manufacturing that will prepare the country for post-COVID-19.
• The program organized by Technology Development Board will also include the addresses by Principal Scientific Advisor to Govt of India, Prof. K Vijay Raghvan, member, Science, Niti Ayog Dr. VK Saraswat, Chief Scientist, WHO, Dr. Saumya Swaminathan and few others.
